LONDON, June 9 (Xinhua) -- A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in north Belfast, Northern Ireland's capital, on Monday night, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said on Tuesday afternoon.
The attack at the Kinnaird Avenue area at around 10:30 p.m. (2130 GMT) on Monday has left the victim with significant injuries to his eyes, face and back. A Sudanese man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder with a knife and remains in custody, the PSNI said at a briefing.
PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson said that after an initial investigation with senior counter-terrorism officials, they have no information to suggest this was terrorist-related. "However, we are still at the early stages of our investigation," he added.
The PSNI is aware of calls for protest activity across Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening and will continue to monitor the situation and plan accordingly, Henderson said, noting that increased police presence is expected in the evening to ensure the safety of communities.
